At Baker we value partnering with parents in every way. We believe this partnership is what makes our community special. On this section of our website, you will find resources specifically designed to serve our parent population.

Baker Parent Organization

Baker is committed to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for everyone in our community (students, parents, faculty, and staff alike). In our Health and Wellness page you will find everything you need to ensure that the needs of your student(s) are being met (such as medical forms, information about contacting our School Nurse, etc.).

For those interested in participating in our hot lunch program, provided by Healthy Kids Kitchen, please click here.

The mission of the Baker Parent Organization (BPO) is to build community among all Baker families, encourage and promote active engagement, and support retention and stability.

The BPO is part of what makes Baker a truly special community of parents, families, friends, and learners. Baker takes to heart the importance of enabling meaningful interaction both on and off campus. The BPO works tirelessly throughout the year, offering parent welcome coffees, hosting annual social events, and demonstrating how much we appreciate the diversity of our student body and the dedication of our faculty.

All Baker parents and guardians are members of the BPO and everyone’s involvement is welcome, encouraged, and essential. Come share your ideas at meetings or volunteer at any of the many events and celebrations that bring life and learning to Baker.

To get involved, please email BPO@bakerdemschool.org.

BPO Committees

The following committees meet throughout the year to manage their particular interests. Each requires a chairperson and committee members.

These activities, coordinated by the Director of Admissions, occur throughout the year. Baker Open Houses need parents who enjoy sharing the best about the school and feel comfortable fielding a variety of questions from prospective parents. If you wish, you could also lead an individual tour for families who cannot make Open House days. Please contact Assistant Head of School – Enrollment Management & Academic Innovation  Denise Boswell to volunteer your time.

Action Awareness
A committee designed to support service efforts throughout the Baker community. Working closely with faculty, staff and families to envelop existing efforts and determine new projects in conjunction with community interest and curriculum.

This committee celebrates the diversity of Baker and its extended communities through year-round activities.

Environmental Awareness
Through education and outreach to the Baker community, this group cultivates greater understanding of our impact on, and relationship with, the environment.

BPO Events

Parent Coffees
Parents gather in the morning after children are settled into their classrooms. In addition to spending time with old friends and meeting new Baker families, educational topics of interest are often presented. Volunteers are always needed to help with set-up, refreshment, and clean-up.

Fall Festival
The BPO welcomes families to the new school year in mid-September with an afternoon filled with cool treats and fun. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up and clean-up, and student activities.

Pancake Breakfast
In February, the BPO hosts one of the signature events of the year. Enjoy pancakes and fellowship in the Baker cafeteria. Volunteers are needed to help with set-up and clean-up, and to flip pancakes.

Teacher Appreciation Week
This committee ensures that our faculty and staff receive a luncheon and gifts that show how much Baker families appreciate their efforts. Parents are asked to provide breakfast treats, assistance with set-up and clean up, and to perform various tasks during the luncheon.

End-of-Year Picnic
This end-of-year event brings returning and incoming families together for an early summer celebration.

Room Parents
Make an ongoing commitment to your child’s classroom by being a room parent. Room parents build a class email list, share information and communications, and help arrange volunteers for classroom and school-wide events. They also organize classroom celebrations and coordinate teacher appreciation gifts.

Book Fair
This week of book sales supplies much-needed extra funding for our school library. Volunteers are needed to set up and take down displays, as well as to work shifts at the check-out table.

Book Drive
This is a week long annual service project where families donate used children’s books to support Book Worm Angels, an organization that creates classroom lending libraries in impoverished neighborhood schools.
