What to Support – Transformative Renovation

Transformative Renovation – From the Inside Out

Through this campaign we are going to build opportunities to apply knowledge gained inside, to the outdoors. This isn’t about teaching outdoors. It’s about using the outdoors to teach.

Our transformed spaces include three distinct project phases:

  1. Enhancing our school entrance and auditorium
  2. Building a new athletic field and early childhood playground
  3. Updating our West Playground

The order and speed in which we complete these projects will depend on the success of our fundraising. Click here to support our efforts with a gift today.

1) School Entrance and Theater

Project Highlights

Baker has engaged Bailey+Edward as our architectural firm to create the specific vision for our new Welcome Center. The firm’s architects have spent hours at the school, working in partnership with school leadership, teachers and volunteers to weave Baker’s culture into their plans.

Key improvements and amenities will include:

  • Developing an enhanced welcome area as the new entrance to our school
  • Opening the main office to create a friendlier, more accessible lobby experience
  • Creating a “living room” space that will encourage a sense of community
  • Establishing a fully secure school entrance, ensuring we are meeting the highest standards in safety practices for our students

Impact

By renovating our grounds, and especially our interior welcome areas, we can give all of our constituents a true feeling of who we are and what we believe in.  With this essential “environmental branding” we can tell our story, instill pride, stimulate engaged and innovative students and faculty, and leverage our environment to play a stronger role in achieving our recruitment, retention, and community leadership goals.

Project Goal:  $715,000

Our goal is to begin construction on our new Welcome Center in June 2017.  So far, we have raised $645,000. To meet this deadline, we must raise an additional $70,000 by June 1. Click here to make a gift today!

2) Athletic Field and Early Childhood Playground

Project Highlights

The quality of our grounds and fields is critically important to the overall educational experience of our students. Physical Education, outdoor play, social-emotional growth and ecology curriculum are core components of who we are as a school.  In addition, our exterior must mirror an extraordinary interior by bringing our culture “from the inside out.”

Key improvements will include:

  • A new regulation athletic field with synthetic turf to allow for year-round use
  • Graded running track and outdoor basketball court
  • Nature-based playgrounds to encourage imaginative play and support social-emotional growth
  • Garden areas that create sensory experiences and allow us to teach subjects like science and math through nature
  • Dedicated outdoor green space to use for art exploration, outdoor classes and community gatherings

Impact

Our teachers know that getting students out of the classroom to explore their world enhances real-world applications of topics they may be learning in the classroom. Our transformed outdoor space will give our other educators more dynamic “outdoor classroom” space to enhance cognitive and emotional development. Outside, children are more likely to invent games. As they do, they express themselves and learn about the world in their own way.

Project Goal:  $2.179 million

As of now, in verbal plegdes and actual dollars in the door, we have raised $1,457,500. In order to begin construction on our Field and Early Childhood playground, we must raise $1,062,500 by April 15. Click here to make a gift today!

3) West Playground

Project Highlights

The West Playground is the area most used by our older students.

Key improvements will include:

  • New play structures, equipment and jungle gyms to communicate a welcoming, wholesome environment for our primary students
  • Nature-based climbing structures to promote large motor skill development and give children a fun and place to interact and socialize
  • Open areas with synthetic turf for year-round use
  • Relocated multi-use ball courts
  • Shade canopies at building entrances

Impact

Project Goal:  $650,000

To date, we have raised $51,600 towards this goal. To begin construction on our West Playground, we must raise an additional $548,400 by April 15. Click here to make a gift today!
