PLĀ Extended Day

Baker offers extended day programming for all students before and after school. PLĀ (Progressive Learning Activities) provides intellectually stimulating learning experiences for students on campus before and after the regular school day.

There are many ways PLĀ meets the intellectual, physical, and social-emotional needs of its multi-aged groups of children:

  • provides a supportive atmosphere for learning and homework
  • incorporates activities for intellectual stimulation
  • offers an environment conducive for fine and gross motor development
  • fosters respectful social relationships and teaches conflict resolution
  • instills a sense of well-being

PLĀ is available for early childhood students (who are three years old and potty trained) following the morning Pre-Kindergarten dismissal at 11:15AM, the Junior Kindergarten dismissal at 2PM, and the Kindergarten dismissal at 3PM. PLĀ for students in first through eighth grade is available after dismissal at 3:15PM.

PLĀ is a fee-based program from dismissal to 6PM. PLĀ is also available on Institute, Records, and Conference days. Parents may register online each semester at PLĀ Registration. Contracts are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

PLĀ offers an after-school Homework Club for grades 4-8; contact Nancy Perla at nperla@bakerdemschool.org for more information.

Drop-in services, meant to be used in cases of emergency, are available as space permits. We request that you telephone the school office at least one day in advance to secure a drop-in space. We understand that in cases of emergency, this is not always possible, and we will do our best to meet your family’s needs.

The essence of this workshop is to help you unlock your creative voice through autobiographical writing. In some ways the stories are a byproduct of the process. Building a path into your creative minds, and learning to trust and allow your writing to flow freely, without judgement, is the true goal. This technique will serve you no matter what kind of writing or work you are creating: Play, painting, or term paper, it will be unique to you and your experiences.
