Daily discoveries delight.
Pre-school and kindergarten camp days are filled with an abundance of indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, music, drama, interactive games and swim instruction. Each summer is focused around a theme that is certain to both excite and engage, with activities centered around imaginative play, artistic creativity, scientific questioning and early literacy. Under the direction and guidance of master teachers, our youngest campers grow and thrive as they build new friendships and splash in summer fun!

Imagine, Discover, Create.
Campers entering first through sixth grades enjoy Educational Explorations during their morning camp sessions Monday through Thursday. These explorations, taught by certified masters teachers, are the highlight of our summer program and include such topics as Potions, Architecture, Inventions, and Spanish, to name a few. Explorations change weekly with three offered each morning. Our always-engaging third period exploration is designed as a free-choice to our campers. Please review the summer 2011 educational explorations here for an idea of just how exciting it is to explore summer at Baker. Afternoons sizzle with traditional day camp activities and swim instruction, rain or shine, in our natatorium, and Fun Fridays are camp fun all day long with extra time to enjoy friends, crafts, sports, games and trips to the beach.

Discovering how to lead.
For students entering grades six through nine, Summer Discovery offers a combined program of Babysitters-in-Training (BIT) and Counselors-in-Training (CIT). Babysitters-in-Training campers participate in the American Red Cross Certified Babysitting Course, which includes first aid and emergency training. All campers receive hands-on experience as they work with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten campers in the mornings, learning how to facilitate constructive play, and with our college student counselors in the afternoons to help plan and facilitate camp activities for older campers and learn the role of a day camp counselor. There is also plenty of time for these campers to have their own fun with free swim, games and kayaking. By the end of each four-week session, BIT/CIT will receive a certificate of completion, have many young friends who adore them, and appreciate increased self-confidence and leadership skills.

Discover confidence and strength.
Martial Arts Leadership camp continues to be an important element of Baker Summer Discovery. Martial Arts is open to all campers, from beginner to experienced students. Led by Grandmaster Connelly, campers build confidence and leadership skills in a fun, non-competitive environment. Core curriculum is drawn from Taekwon-do, Hapkido, and the sword art of Kumdo. Class size is limited to ensure that each student receives the benefit of individual coaching from Grandmaster Connelly. Full-day campers join Baker Summer Discovery in the afternoons for lunch followed by traditional camp sports, crafts, games and swimming.

Discover your voice. And use it.
NEW! Music Theatre Workshop allows campers grades three through nine to explore their dramatic talents. Join our drama teacher and professional singer, Lizanne Wilson, for a four week music theatre morning workshop. Classes in acting, music and dance for music theatre will lead to a musical review designed specifically for the talents of the participants. Bring your enthusiasm for performing, and play and work on a fun music theatre review with your friends.. No experience necessary. Full day campers join Baker Summer Discovery for afternoons of traditional camp fun including sports, games, swimming and sea kayaing.

Discovery Highlights
During the summer, campers will have many opportunities to engage in new challenges. Campers explore the silks, ropes, globe and more with circus arts provided by Actors Gymnasium, and campers age 10 and up will have an opportunity to sea kayak at Gillson beach with expert instruction provided by The Northwest Passage. NEW! Play-Well TEKnologies will be here with over 100,000 pieces of LEGO® during the weeks of June 25th and of July 16th, providing campers with an opportunity to explore the worlds of architecture and engineering in optional 3 hour workshops.
