Baker Demonstration School applications for first-round consideration are due January 31 of each year for the following school year; applications for second-round consideration are due between March 15 and May 1. After that time, applications are accepted on a rolling admissions basis, considered in the order in which received.

The following is a checklist to help you with the application process:

  1. Submit an Inquiry Form to admissions@bakerdemschool.org.
  2. Visit and tour the school. This is an opportunity for families to ask questions and for the school to learn more about the family.
  3. Submit the following materials:
    1. Admissions Application (PDF)
    2. Copy of child's birth certificate
    3. Family photo
    4. Narrative about your child
    5. $75 Application fee
    6. Signed Academic Record Release (for applicants currently in Kindergarten-8th Grade)
    7. Outside evaluations, testing or reports (if applicable)
  1. Request that your child’s current teacher submit the following directly to Baker:
    1. Grade-appropriate Lake Michigan Association of Independent Schools (LMAIS) Common Recommendation Forms (submit all that apply):

      Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
      Kindergarten-1st Grade Teacher
      2nd-5th Grade Teacher
      6th-8th Grade English Teacher
      6th-8th Grade Math Teacher
      2nd-5th Grade - Principal
      6th-8th Grade - Principal

    2. ISEE, ISAT, ERB, Terra Nova, or other State standardized test scores for Middle School entry
    3. Any additional school evaluations, testing results or IEP/504 Plans (if applicable)

School records and recommendation forms will be reviewed by the Admission Committee. Outside evaluations will be shared with the Head of School, Instructional Coordinator, and Student Services. Occasionally, Baker staff may speak with a child’s former or current teacher or other professional who has worked with the applicant.

  1. Schedule a student visit for your child. All incoming students, including those not attending a school program and new incoming siblings of Baker students, must be met by Baker faculty.
    1. Toddler Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten applicants will visit for a one-hour “play party” with their current peer group.
    2. 1st Grade applicants will visit for a half day (including lunch) with peers in a Kindergarten class.
    3. 2nd through 8th Grade applicants will visit the school for a full day (8:30 am – 3:15 pm) in a class with their current cohort. Students should bring the following materials:
      1. Writing samples
      2. Math samples
      3. Book (that applicant is currently reading)
      4. Snack
      5. Lunch
      6. Gym and/or swimwear
      7. Appropriate C lothing for Outdoor Play
