Prospective Family:
I am delighted that you are interested in learning about the Baker Demonstration School.

Baker's admission process reflects the experiential learning that goes on every day in our classrooms. If you haven't already, please submit an inquiry form by fax (847) 425-5801 and we will send you an admission packet or additional documents you may need. These materials may also be downloaded directly from www.bakerdemschool.org. We encourage each family to get to know us by attending an open house or a group tour. See our faculty and children in action; hear what an active classroom sounds like; move through our recently enhanced space; sense if Baker feels like the best school home for your child and your family. Once a family has applied, they may arrange to observe in a classroom. This is a rare opportunity that few independent schools offer prospective families but, because we are a demonstration school, our faculty and our kids are at ease with visitors and welcome them. Deepen your knowledge of our community by talking to current Baker parents at a parent coffee or those you may already know. Why do parents select Baker for their children? Each family will have a different answer, but all of our parents say they are here for our exceptional faculty and the way we make learning happen with our students.

In getting to know your child and you, we will ask for a number of documents. Once his or her file is complete, each applicant meets our faculty at an early childhood "play party", or for applicants to 1st -8th grades, a visit day with a peer class. Parent/s or guardian/s will meet with the Admissions Director so any final questions may be answered and so we may get to know you better. A team of faculty and administrators deliberate on final admissions determinations. The goal of every admission process is to determine whether Baker, a child, and their family are a mutually good fit. When space is not available, accepted students will be placed on a waitlist.

Though the environment is nothing like the school year, summer tours and assessments may be arranged.

I hope to help you move through this process with clarity and calm. As one of our founders, Elizabeth Harrison, once said, 'Come live awhile with our children!' I look forward to meeting you soon!
